Sono passati 20 anni dalla nascita di YouTube e la piattaforma acquisita da Google è riuscita a resistere agli attacchi dei social network, da Facebook a TikTok. Oggi, la piattaforma acquisita da Google per 1,65 miliardi di dollari, raggiunge 2,5 miliardi di utenti che guardano video per una media di 36 minuti al giorno, soprattutto sui televisori. Il suo archivio può vantare qualcosa come 20 miliardi di video e ogni giorno ne vengono caricati 20 milioni in più.
In questi anni è riuscita ad adattarsi alle mode e ai nuovi formati, dai video brevi ai video podcast, senza perdere di vista i suoi utenti, soprattutto quelli che creano contenuti sempre più di qualità rispetto al passato. A questi YouTube offre molte possibilità di monetizzazione (ha distribuito 70 miliardi negli ultimi tre anni), ma forse potrebbe fare di più per aggiungere strumenti per gestire la community che viene a crearsi attorno ai video pubblicati.
La sfida attuale, come per tutte le piattaforme social, è quella di capire come sfruttare le nuove opportunità dell’intelligenza artificiale generativa. YouTube ha deciso di iniziare mettendo a disposizione dei suoi utenti degli strumenti di IA utili per le proprie creazioni. Ad esempio, il doppiaggio automatico dei video in altre lingue (ancora non disponibile per tutti), la creazione di sfondi generati da IA o di musiche prive di copyright per i proprio video (Dream Screen e Dream Track).
