OpenAI ha rilasciato la versione open di ChatGPT. Dopo il successo di Llama di Meta e dei modelli open cinesi, Deepseek e Qwen, l’azienda di Altman era sotto pressione e doveva occupare uno spazio che avrebbe rischiato di erodere la sua posizione di leadership. Spesso, infatti, i modelli linguistici open weight sono usati per testare soluzioni aziendali e possono veicolare l’adozione di un modello similare ma più performante (anche se chiuso).
I modelli messi a disposizione da OpenAI sono due (come sempre dai nomi non memorabili): gpt-oss-120b e gpt-oss-20b . Sono entrambi modelli di reasoning , migliori di o3-mini. Sono anche gratuiti per cui si possono scaricare in locale e installare sul vostro computer (PC o Mac). Per farlo, in maniera semplificata, si possono usare software come Ollama o LM Studio . Ovviamente, a differenza dell’uso di ChatGPT da web, qui la differenza di velocità di inferenza sarà determinata dalla potenza del vostro computer (CPU, Scheda Video, RAM).
