MSNBC , joint venture tra MSN (Microsoft) ed NBC (General Electric), ha acquisito Newsvine in contanti e senza rivelare altri elementi dell’accordo.
Newsvine (nato nel Marzo 2006) è un sito/filtro di social news/giornalismo partecipativo, che affianca alle notizie delle agenzie di stampa, quelle scritte dai propri lettori, che ricevono il 90% degli introiti pubblicitari veicolati dai propri articoli. La rilevanza delle notizie viene scelta dai visitatori attraverso un sistema di voto.
La riuscita dell’accordo dipenderà dalla capacità del gigante MSNBC di creare una sinergia non distruttiva con Newsvine, nel rispetto della sua indipendenza reale e percepita. Infatti i servizi di citizen journalism si reggono sulla fiducia che anche una notizia negletta dai potenti media tradizionali possa emergere.
Come dimostra quest’ultimo episodio la convergenza tra vecchi e nuovi media è inarrestabile, anche nel mercato dei servizi di social news: nel marzo 2006 Newroo era stata acquisita da Fox (per diventare poi My Space News) e nell’ottobre 2006 Reddit da Condé Nast.
